Bog Garden and Stream
The
stream was one of the features that attracted us to view Kirklands
in 1977. We love our natural water feature. Beside the stream is an
old well, probably Victorian Romantic period, fed by one of the
several springs on the bank.
Another of the springs feeds the bog garden where
Gunnera manicata reigns with primulas, astillbes, rogersia, darmera
and flag iris competing for control.
Toby of Granada’s ‘My Beautiful Garden’
thought this was the most magical spot he had seen on his tour of
Scottish gardens.
The bank above the bog garden is planted with rhododendrons
including Rhododendron rex planted in 1980.
